Cliba achieves carbon neutrality in scopes 1 and 2 in Argentina

Cliba, Benito Roggio's environmental urban services company, has reached a significant milestone by certifying carbon neutrality in scopes 1 and 2 of its operations in the City of Buenos Aires, becoming a pioneer in the urban waste management sector in Argentina. This achievement implies the compensation of 100% of its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

A milestone in urban waste management with international certification

The certification was granted internationally by SCS Global Services, under its SCS-108 standard, version 1.1, guaranteeing the traceability and reliability of Cliba's operations. The process included the verification of Cliba's carbon footprint in the City of Buenos Aires (under ISO 14064-1 standard) and the emission reductions of Tecsan's Buen Ayre Central Plant, also part of the Benito Roggio environmental group.

Circularity and insetting: an innovative model

This innovative circularity scheme, called "insetting projects", is developed within the company's own value chain. The waste collected by Cliba in Buenos Aires is disposed of in the North III Environmental Complex, where Tecsan's Buen Ayre Central Plant takes advantage of the biogas generated to produce renewable energy and avoid emissions, thus offsetting Cliba's carbon footprint.

Gabriela Ananía, Manager of Institutional Relations and Communications of Benito Roggio Ambiental, highlighted: "Our operations and activities seek to be in harmony with the communities where we are present. Therefore, our commitment is to provide environmental solutions to cities and their inhabitants, as well as to manage our own operations with the same responsibility and coherence. Cliba's recent carbon neutrality certification in the City of Buenos Aires is a concrete example of this way of working, which integrates sustainability in a transversal way in every decision, service and development, generating environmental, social and technological value with an innovative and responsible look".

Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and environmental actions

Benito Roggio has incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since its adherence to the United Nations Global Compact, prioritizing infrastructure, consumption and sustainable production. During 2024, its actions contributed to 14 SDGs, grouped into five central axes: Environment, Human Capital, Health and Safety, Community Relations, and Integrity and Transparency.

Among the outstanding initiatives are the 9th Safety Week, addiction prevention days, Health Week and the Pink October campaign. In the environmental field, Tecsan, through the Green Spaces Program in the North III Environmental Complex, has planted more than 17,000 plant species.

In partnership with the Faculty of Agronomy of the UBA, BRa has developed research projects in its Center for Innovation and Development. In urban hygiene, Cliba tested a CNG-powered truck from Scania's Green Efficiency line and re-certified the green seal of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires for the third consecutive year.

The Zero Waste Program, with 11 years of implementation, recovered 314,411 kg of cardboard, paper, plastics, metals and covers, and more than 2,258 kg of organic waste for compost. In addition, more than 170 pieces of equipment, appliances, furniture and construction elements were donated to NGOs and social actors.
